Geisinger scores many ways for JT
In the blink of an eye.
That’s how fast Jim Thorpe’s Jarrin Geisinger can put points on the scoreboard.
The Olympian senior surely didn’t need a ton of volume to make his presence felt on the field last Friday against Midd-West.
Geisinger had just four total offensive touches, but he scored five times by the time the game ended. The speedy senior racked up 134 total yards of offense and was a big part in blasting the Mustangs, en route to earning the Times News Player of the Week award.
“I just had great holes, and my line did a great job blocking for me,” Geisinger said. “We’re going to keep climbing the mountain. We know we can’t ever stop, we’re going to keep going up.”
Geisinger scored on explosive pass plays of 23 and 57 yards from quarterback Roberto Santiago, and had rushing scores of 32 and 22 yards.
The PIAA track medalist has that specific intangible you can’t teach.
Speed.
“First thing, when you talk about Jarrin, you talk about speed,” said Jim Thorpe head coach Mark Rosenberger. “He has game-breaking speed that we always talk about wanting to have. Being a district champion in the 100-meter two years ago, that’s a huge asset. He has learned to play football ‘fast’ this year. The last couple of years he was a track kid, and at times, we used his speed. There has been a major growth with him learning how to use his speed on the football field.”
Geisinger now has 170 receiving yards on six receptions this year, which comes out to a whopping Times News-leading average of 28.33 yards per catch. Half of his catches have been for touchdowns. He is also averaging 11.55 yards-per-carry and has three rushing scores.
Geisinger has proved to be the ultimate weapon to stretch the field.
“Jarrin will be the first one to tell you a lot of his success will come from the guys up front,” Rosenberger said. “He’s an outstanding player for us. His versatility offensively, whether it’s running or catching the football. He’s playing well defensively and on special teams; he has really impacted our team in all three components.”
Geisinger has a relentless motor and plays on all three phases of the ball for the “Red Swarm”. The senior can be found at receiver, corner, or returning punts. Not only is Geisinger a major threat to stretch the field, he can flip it in a hurry. He has six punt returns for 100 yards and a touchdown this season.
“Defense is one thing, but special teams is even better,” Rosenberger said of Geisinger. “He has had a bunch of kickoff returns over his career here. He had a punt return for a touchdown this year already for us, and he had a couple big ones last week against Midd-West that got us in the right field position. He is a versatile kid that can do a bunch of things for us.”
With a little bit of luck, hustle and good timing, Geisinger’s fifth score against the Mustangs was a fumble recovery in the end zone.
Four offensive touches, five scores.
“It was just right in front of me, I didn’t expect it, and I landed on it,” he added. “The teamwork we have is great. I played for a few different teams, but I love Jim Thorpe more than anything in this world.”
