BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — Trial opens this week for a central Pennsylvania man accused of ambushing and killing the husband of a woman with whom police say the defendant had had an affair.
Thirty-eight-year-old Matthew Dreibelbis is charged in the early morning August 2017 shooting death of his Bellefonte neighbor, 38-year-old Jeremy Cantolina.
A state police trooper alleges that Dreibelbis said he confronted the victim in his driveway, fired to scare him and then fired a second round that killed him.
The Centre Daily Times reports that the woman told police she conceived a child with Dreibelbis while she and her husband were separated, and the defendant said he wanted to kill her husband "multiple times" during their affair.
The trooper said he asked the suspect whether he "killed for love," and Dreibelbis agreed.
