Local Sports Roundup: Results from Sept. 22
Tamaqua picked up victories in boys and girls soccer on Saturday, while its volleyball team turned in a strong showing at the Shamokin Invitational.
BOYS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Pleasant Vy.
Pleasant Valley blanked Jim Thorpe for a 4-0 non-league victory.
The Bears’ duo of Mirza Sabovic and Zion Moore both finished with a goal and an assist. Timmy Covart and Matt Erhardt recorded single goals.
PV keeper Chris Price made nine saves to record the shutout win. JT goalie Kingsley Ehling finished with 13 saves.
No. Lehigh-Lehighton
Isaiah Everett’s goal and two assists highlighted Lehighton’s 4-1 non-league win over Northern Lehigh.
Carter Strauss, Drew Lorenz and Connor Hanley all recorded single scores for the Indians. Dan Sharp was credited with an assist.
Chuck Wilk posted the Bulldogs’ lone goal, while Grant Olewine finished with an assist.
Indians goalie Zach Andrews recorded six saves.
Palmerton-Tamaqua
Jacob Rudy’s hat trick helped Tamaqua cruise to a 5-1 non-league victory over Palmerton.
The Blue Raiders’ Michael Shlanta and Ian Davis both chipped in with single scores. Derian Stianche was credited with two assists, while Schlanta and Brian Milot had one assist each.
Russo Conner recorded the Blue Bombers’ lone goal.
Blue Raiders’ keeper Luke Verta ended up with nine saves.
CROSS COUNTRY
Northwestern at The Foundation Invite (at Hershey)
The Northwestern girls finished as The PIAA Foundation Invite runners-up over the weekend. The Tigers were 2nd out of 29 teams
Madeline Consuelos paced the Tiger pack crossing the finish line in 23rd place, which was scored as a 20th place finish in team scoring.
Sarah Supplee ended up in 25th (22nd team) and Kailyn Jones wound up in 31st (28th team).
The Northwestern boys ended up 29 out of 36 teams.
RJ Zack led the Tigers as he finished in 111th place (109 team), while Joe Pleban followed right behind in 115th (113 team).
FIELD HOCKEY
Salisbury-Palmerton
Sayler Burke’s hat trick sparked Palmerton to a 4-2 Colonial League win over Salisbury.
Megan Serfass added the other goal for the Bombers.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua
Rebekah Hromyak’s goal with 4:50 left in regulation lifted Tamaqua to a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.
The Blue Raiders’ Katelyn Rudy recorded the assist.
Tamaqua goalie Bayle Reinhardt recorded her first career shutout with four saves. Olympians’ keeper Katelyn Bos ended up with six saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Tamaqua
at Shamokin Invitational
Tamaqua finished in second place in pool play with a 7-3 mark at the Shamokin Invitational over the weekend.
In the kinockout round, the Blue Raiders beat Tri-Valley 25-15 in the quarterfinals. Tamaqua was then eliminated by Williamson in the semifinals, dropping a hard fought 26-24 decision.
Emily Amershek paced the Blue Raiders’ offensive with 63 kills, 20 digs and 11 aces, while Ella McLaughlin added 64 digs and 12 aces throughout tournament play.
Teammate Brynn Gigli finished with 32 assists, 15 digs, 11 aces and 10 kills.

Pine Grove edged Tamaqua, 27-26.
The Blue Raiders’ Carly Minchhoff and Lorelei Plasha finished with 10 points each.

Pine Grove rolled to a 33-10 victory over Tamaqua.
