Prothonotary’s report

A total of case 346 were started in August in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 31; custody complaints, 21; complaints to modify custody, 13; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 19; complaint in ejectment, 1; license appeals, 4; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 10; name change petitions, 2; protection from abuse petitions, 41; protection from sexually violent individual petitions, 2; judgments, 164; miscellaneous cases, 2; paternity suit, 1; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; and writs of executions, 27. The office also processed 66 passport applications and offered assistance to the public with 30 passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for August shows $35,304.58 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $26,197.56; interest income, $3.77; custody/divorce fees, $1,875; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $50; PFA Surcharge, Courts, $50; data processing fees; $4,372.50; stenographer fees, $2,755.75; and remote access fees, $900.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,296.04 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $57.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,225.00 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
