Palmerton flood victims learned that no easy answers exist to protect them from future damage.
More than 100 families attended a meeting yesterday in the Sokol Hall to discuss flood cleanup and solutions to flooding problems. Chairing the meeting were Neil Smith and Sam Young, residents of Hazard Road; Councilmen David Lucia and Richard Simko; the Rev. James Laubach, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Palmerton; and insurance agent Norman Eckhart.
The Alliance sand quarry and the 40 fires on Tank Road were listed as causes for the water runoff problems on Hazard Road. It was suggested a declaration of disaster by Gov. Robert P. Casey would result in bringing in federal money to help solve the problems.
