Schuylkill men jailed for domestic assault

Two Schuylkill County men were jailed for assault following two separate domestic incidents.

State police at Frackville said troopers responded to West Main Street in Girardville around 5:30 p.m. Friday for a reported assault. Troopers said Michael Twigg, 55, and a 52-year-old woman, both of that address, engaged in a domestic dispute. Sometime during the argument Twigg retrieved a loaded semi-automatic rifle, pointed it at the woman and threatened her. Twigg then struck her above the right eye with the barrel of the rifle causing a laceration. The woman was able to escape the residence and called police.

Twigg was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated assault and related offenses. He was arraigned by on-call District Judge David A. Plachko, of Port Carbon, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post bail.

The second incident occurred Sept. 12. Troopers said Danny Devila, 43, and a 49-year-old woman, of Valley Street, New Philadelphia, engaged in a domestic dispute around 8:30 p.m. At some point in the argument, Devila subjected the woman to physical contact resulting in an injury to her cheek which required medical treatment.

Devila fled the scene before the arrival of troopers but turned himself in on Sept. 13. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment before DJ Plachko. He was committed to the county prison after failing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
