Pair behind bars after traffic stop in Kidder Twp. nets drugs

A man and woman are behind bars after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

Alvin Jefferies, 34, of Osceola Mills, Clearfield County, faces charges on four counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, three counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered, and one count of use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper George Tessitore of the Pennsylvania State Police:

At 4:13 p.m. Sept. 4, Tessitore was sitting stationary on I-80 westbound in Kidder Township when he saw a 2014 maroon Ford Fusion approach and pass his location.

Tessitore observed the vehicle to continuously be traveling in the left lane of travel when the right lane was clear and available, a violation.

Tessitore followed the vehicle westbound and saw the driver throw a cigarette from the window, so he activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop.

As Tessitore approached the passenger’s side, he immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.

The driver identified himself as Jefferies, and Tessitore had him get out of the vehicle.

During a records check, Tessitore found that Jefferies had an active warrant out for his arrest, and Jefferies was placed into handcuffs.

Tessitore received conflicting stories from between Jefferies and his passenger, Jamie Lynn Lansberry, 36, of Altoona, Blair County.

A probable cause search was executed on the vehicle, resulting in the seizure of about 115 grams of marijuana and 14 grams of suspected cocaine.

Jefferies and Lansberry were transported to the Fern Ridge barracks, and the charges were approved by Carbon County District Attorney Jean Engler.

While in custody, Lansberry told Cpl. Larry McDaniel that she had a baggie of methamphetamine and smoking pipe in her bra and removed it.

All contraband was logged into evidence at Fern Ridge.

Both Jefferies and Lansberry are currently lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.

They are both scheduled to have preliminary hearings at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 26 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
