Chestnuthill supervisors approve Eagle Scout project

Chestnuthill Township supervisors on Tuesday approved an Eagle Scout project during Tuesday’s meeting. Tyler Fette, a 16-year-old Life Scout from Troop 99 requested permission to replace the steps in front of the Chestnuthill Township Park building. The project includes some landscaping and adding mulch.

In addition to replacing the steps with pressure-treated lumber, Fette will also sand and repaint the existing handrails. Fette asked the supervisors to provide the mulch and topsoil needed for the project.

The supervisors agreed to Fette’s requests.

“You did an excellent job explaining your project,” said Supervisor Harry Miller. “Outstanding presentation and well-spoken throughout.”

The supervisors also approved advertising for winter snow removal contractors. Township Manager David Albright was also given approval to advertise for up to two additional road crew workers and for refrigerant/Freon recycling for the transfer station.

A donation of $300 was made to the Brodhead Watershed Association as in past years.

The release of a repository lot was approved to Szymon Czuprynski at 1621 Williams Road. Czuprynski will adjoin the lot to his existing property.

Rogue Audio has requested a release from the bond requirement for landscaping. The ordinance calls for a bond equal to $20,000 for 18 months after the plantings are approved. Rogue has already completed the work and would like some relief from the costly bond.

Chairman Chuck Gould suggested that the supervisors consider options where Rogue provide proof of a contract with a landscaping company to maintain the plantings for a period of time in lieu of the bond. Solicitor Tim McManus will draft a proposal for the supervisors to consider before presenting it to Rogue at next month’s meeting.

Country Meadow Estates is also seeking relief from landscaping requirements and release of its letter of credit. Country Meadows is in default on the plantings and the as-built plan. The discussion was tabled until the next meeting so that the township engineer and manager can determine what the cost of finishing the project would be.
