Woman enters no contest pleas in death of toddler daughter

UNIONTOWN (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman has pleaded no contest to third-degree murder in the malnutrition= and dehydration-related death of her toddler daughter.

The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard reports that 29-year-old Andrea Dusha has agreed to cooperate with Fayette County prosecutors and testify against the child’s father.

Prosecutors allege that she and 34-year-old Michael Wright Jr. left Wright strapped into a car seat for more than 12 hours in February 2016. A forensic pathologist said she died of malnutrition and dehydration.

In exchange for Dusha’s no contest plea to the murder charge as well as child endangerment and reckless endangerment, prosecutors have agreed to recommend a prison sentence of 9½ to 19 years.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Wright. A judge in May agreed to a competency evaluation for him.
