Republican congressional candidate Dan Meuser now lives in the new 9th Congressional District after moving a mile to a condo in Dallas.

Meuser is facing Democrat Denny Wolff in the Nov. 6 election for the 9th District. Meuser was living in Kingston Township, which was placed in the 8th Congressional District by the state Supreme Court with a ruling to impose completely new congressional district boundaries in February.

Meuser and his wife, Shelley, purchased a unit at Newberry Estates in Dallas for $210,000, according to records at the Luzerne County Recorder of Deeds Office. The deed was signed Aug. 17 and filed Aug. 29.

Meuser has lived there since Thursday, and he still lives in the Dallas School District, where his son is a student, his campaign said in a statement from Tuesday.

Before the redistricting ruling, Meuser was planning to run for the old 11th District, which has been represented by U.S. Lou Barletta, a Republican from Hazleton and a U.S. Senate candidate this year.

The old congressional districts will be replaced in January when new congressional terms begin.

The state Supreme Court overturned the congressional map approved by the Legislature after the 2010 U.S. Census. The new map put most of Luzerne County in the 8th District with Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike counties and most of Monroe County.

Municipalities in western Luzerne County are in the 9th District with Carbon, Schuylkill, Columbia, Montour, Berks and Lebanon counties and part of Northumberland County. The Luzerne County municipalities in the 9th District are Conyngham, Dallas, Harveys Lake, Nescopeck, New Columbus and Shickshinny, along with the townships of Hollenback, Hunlock, Huntington, Lake, Lehman, Nescopeck, Newport, Ross, Salem, Slocum, Sugarloaf and Union.

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, a Moosic Democrat, is running for his fourth term, but this time in the new 8th District. Cartwright’s current district, the 17th, includes the Wilkes-Barre, Pittston and Wyoming Area communities in Luzerne County and stretches into Schuylkill County and areas in Carbon and Northampton counties.

Republican John Chrin is running against Cartwright and fulfilled a campaign promise to find a home in the 8th District when he bought a town house May 29 for $256,000 in Barrett Township, Monroe County.

Before the redistricting ruling, Chrin was planning to run for Cartwright’s 17th District. Last November, Chrin and his wife bought a home for $365,000 in Northampton County in the 17th District.

Chrin and Meuser both won Republican nominations in the May primary election while living in other congressional districts. The U.S. Constitution only requires congressional candidates to live in a state, but not necessarily the district they want to represent.
