Lehigh Valley Wine Trail celebrates the harvest
On Saturday and Sunday, the nine locally owned and operated wineries of the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail will celebrate the annual Harvest Weekend event.
Wineries will feature a variety of activities, such as wine tastings, tours, food and wine pairings, food trucks and entertainment.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Harvest Weekend is a free event, however each winery sets its own fee for tastings, music and tours. Refer to each winery’s website for details. Visit www.HarvestWeekendLVWT.com for complete event details.
Harvest Weekend highlights
• Amore Vineyards, Nazareth, will serve rigatoni Bolognese paired with Cabaret Amore wine
• Black River Farms, Bethlehem, will combine wine tasting with food samples from Feast catering. Learn screen-printing and create a personalized canvas, sign or coaster. Live music Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. by John Rodden, and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. by Scott Marshall & the Hillbilly Souls.
• Blue Mountain Vineyards, New Tripoli, will offer samples of riesling and Mountain Frost with spicy Thai peanut noodles. Live music by Ralph Pangano from 1-4 p.m.
• Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery, Breinigsville, will welcome The Nesting Box, which offers cage free, all natural brown eggs, along with other locally produced foods. They will be serving up a Sparkling Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
• Franklin Hill Vineyards, Bangor, will feature a fall-themed cocktail bar. There will be a family-friendly hayride at 2 and 4 p.m. Hayride tickets include a glass of sangria; kids ride for free and get cookies and a glass of juice. Wine tastings will be available all day, and guided vineyard tours will be offered at noon and 2 p.m.
• Galen Glen Winery, Andreas, will offer a sample of bacon barbecue popcorn using local “Chef Salt” paired with their rieslings. Included in the tasting fee. Other events include walking tours Saturday and Sunday; Cheeseboard Day, Saturday; and Randevoo Food Truck, Sunday.
• Pinnacle Ridge Winery, Kutztown, will feature food by the Gourmand Café in Reading. Each option will be paired with a choice of 2016 Chambourcin or for a semisweet option, 2017 Quaff.
• Tolino Vineyards, Bangor, will offer a taste of a decadent apple-inspired dessert from Barred and Broody Bakery with sparkling apple cider sangria. Cruise through the vineyard in style to check out the ripening grapes on wagon tours at 2 and 4 p.m. Live music by George Baier on Saturday.
• Vynecrest Winery, Breinigsville, will pair Autumn Gold wine with orzo salad — a mix of local oven-roasted eggplant, bell peppers, red onion and garlic dressed in a lemon vinaigrette with scallions, basil and feta cheese.
