Area youth are invited to audition for the youth musical show “Mary Poppins” this weekend. Girls and boys in grades K-12 are encouraged be part of the magic of live theater. Everyone who auditions will get a part in the show. Auditions are held to find the perfect part for each youngster.

All roles are open including youth roles of the leads Jane and Michael Banks. Other roles for the young students in the show include the honey bees in “A spoonful of sugar” sung with Mary Poppins, children in park scene, kite flyers as well as other singing scenes.

High schoolers are encouraged to take part in this classic Disney Broadway show. Main roles include Mary Poppins, Bert, George Banks, Winifred Banks, Mrs. Brill, Miss Anderson, Bird Woman, Mrs. Cory and John Northbrook.

Auditions will be held between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and between 4 and 5 p.m. Sunday at the United Presbyterian Church Hall located on Third Street off Mahantongo Drive in Pottsville.

Those auditioning only need to attend one day and can leave once they are done with their audition.

Those who would like to take part in the show but are unable to attend the auditions, should email for an alternate way to audition.

To audition, be prepared to sing 30 seconds of a song of your choice a cappella (no music). Those without a song can sing “Happy Birthday.” There will be reading from the script, and youngsters 8 and under should have a joke ready.

No prior experience is required — just a willingness to learn, have fun and meet new friends.

The show, presented by the Pottsville GTC Theater Program, will be held Oct. 27-28 at the DHH Lengel Middle School in Pottsville.

There will be a free Mary Poppins singalong at the church hall from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday for anyone who auditioned as well as those who might be interested in being in the show.
