A Monroe County man is behind bars after attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old girl early Monday morning.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said the incident occurred on Naomi Lane in Cresco.

Police were dispatched to the home for a child abduction. The dispatch also related that the suspect, Dudley Robinson, 55, of Cresco, had placed the victim, an 11-year-old girl, in a van, crashed the van and was now on the front porch of the residence with a handgun threatening suicide.

Police surrounded the home undetected and saw Robinson on the front porch. Robinson walked to the side of the home when police surprised him and took him into custody.

Police located a handgun on the porch where Robinson had been seated.

The investigation revealed that Robinson lives in the basement of the home.

He is familiar with the family and the juvenile victim.

The victim’s mother said she awoke at around 3 a.m. because she heard her daughter crying.

She went to see what was wrong and found Robinson dragging the victim toward the front door by her neck.

The victim’s father also awoke and heard his daughter yelling “help” and “stop it.”

Robinson forced the victim into a van, while the mother and father struggled to free her.

Robinson then put the van in reverse and accelerated out of the driveway, across the roadway and struck a tree.

During this time, both parents were dragged by the vehicle.

Robinson then tried to put the van in drive, however, the vehicle was immobile.

Robinson then said that he was done and went onto the porch with the handgun.

Both the victims’ parents suffered minor injuries, and were not transported to the hospital.

Robinson is currently being held at Pocono Mountain Regional Police headquarters while the initial investigation continues.

He is scheduled to be arraigned by District Judge Phillip Riley of Mountainhome.

Pending charges include criminal attempted kidnapping of a minor; unlawful restraint; false imprisonment; interference with the custody of a child; luring a child into a motor vehicle; concealment of the whereabouts of a child; reckless endangerment; and simple assault of a minor and adult.
