Blood drive
Cornerstone Community Church, on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. today. Donate Power Red and regular blood.
People can also donate via the Miller drive at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville today from noon to 6 p.m.
Community supper
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free community supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today.
Riverside Rhythm
The Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville will play host to Riverside Rhythm, a 19-piece big band featuring music of the Swing Era with tunes from the 1920s through the 1940s from favorites like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Bassie and Les Brown today, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The band also performs ballroom selections featuring the fox trot, tango, cha-cha and contemporary hits.
The evening also includes free ice cream.

Eldred Supervisors
The Eldred Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Eldred Township Municipal Building in Kunkletown.
Meet the principal
From 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Pleasant Valley Middle School families can meet the middle school principal, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. they can find the student’s classroom.
Zion Seniors
This group of Seniors 50 or older are meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday. Members are asked to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided. There are minimal yearly dues.
Bilingual Mass
Today is a Holy Day of Obligation and a Polish celebration at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.
At 6 p.m. the evening Mass that is being offered will be bilingual, in Polish and English, followed by a meal with traditional food of Poland in the pavilion.
Lions meet
The Western Pocono Lions Club will hold its August dinner meeting Thursday at Cherry’s on Route 209 in Kresgeville. The board will meet at 6 p.m. and dinner will be ordered off the menu at around 6:30 p.m. The meeting follows.
All attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to be given to the PVEN food pantry, or simply feed the Purple Pig at the meeting.
Altar & Rosary
Our Lady Queen of Peace’s Altar & Rosary Society will hold its monthly meeting for August at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafe due to the Holy Day of Obligation.
WELL meeting
The West End Little League’s general meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville. The meeting is open to all.
Knights gather
The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the hall at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.
Help sought
The West End Food pantry in Kunkletown is seeking back to school supplies for this Friday’s deadline. Needed are new book bags, single subject notebooks, file folders, highlighters and erasers.
Meal choices
The Chestnuthill Center Seniors, part of Monroe County Seniors, are being offered steak Diane with grilled onions for Friday’s lunch and crispy baked fish for Aug. 22.
The group meets in the fellowship hall at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
For meal reservations, call the site manager at 570-242-6770 one day in advance by 11 a.m. There is a suggested meal donation.
Pocono Parkinson’s
For those with Parkinson’s, there is a support group, begun by a Chestnuthill Township resident years ago, that meets every third Friday at East Stroudsburg University on campus in Monroe Hall at noon. For information, call 570-422-3247 and ask for Pam Gallina.
Dual events
The West End Community Center in Kunkletown has two events on its Saturday calendar.
From 8 a.m. to noon, it is pantry haircut day.
From 9 a.m. to noon, it is pantry distribution time.
And next week includes the noon jam session at noon on Monday.
Clothing swap
A Pleasant Valley School District clothing swap is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School in the cafeteria.
Driver Safety
An AARP driver safety course, Smart Driver is again being offered at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville this month.
The four-hour version, for those who provide evidence of taking a class during the past 36 months, will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Park.

Tax office hours
The Eldred Township Tax Office will not be open on its regularly scheduled third Saturday of the month in August, namely this Saturday. Instead the tax office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 25.
LAMA meets
Sunday at 10 a.m. is the meeting time for the LAMA Pocono Chapter meeting at American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.
PVHS orientation
An orientation for Pleasant Valley High School ninth-graders and new students will be held at the high school from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Shawl ministry
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl ministry will meet beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Anyone who knits or crochets or would like to learn is welcome to join the ladies.
Chestnuthill supers
The Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township municipal building in Brodheadsville.
PTSD Support Group
The Valor Foundation Clinic sponsors the PTSD Support which will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.
Vets UnStoppable Peer-To-Peer PTSD Support Group. Non-Post member veterans are welcome.

Backpack blessing
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will have a Back Pack Blessing time at all the Masses on Saturday and Sunday. Children from preschool to 12th grade are invited to bring their backpacks to Mass and receive a special blessing and a gift from the parish family as they get ready to begin the new school year.
Helping neighbors
Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church representatives say the time has come for the last installment of Vacation Bible School. This event will be held on Sunday at the Jablonskis’ home beginning at 11 a.m.
The church is continuing its Helping our Neighbors discussion with a focus on the church family itself. There will be special guests, activities, swimming, fun and food. All are welcome to join in. Dream ride benefit
The annual United Dream Ride benefiting Dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter, is happening Aug. 26.
Registration is from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.
A donation breakfast sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion at the Legion is included.
