Palmerton news for Aug. 15, 2018
Park concert
At 7 p.m. Sunday, the Palmerton Band will perform in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand. The concert, sponsored by the Bandstand Committee, will be the final concert of this summer’s series. Bring a lawn chair.
In case of bad weather the concert will be canceled with no rain date. No alcohol or smoking is permitted in the Borough Park. A big thank-you to the Bandstand Committee for another summer filled with music.
Arner family thank-you
The Palmerton Memorial Park Association Board of Directors will be honoring Larry Arner, pool manager for the last 35 years, as well as his family from 2-5 p.m. on Aug. 26. Daily admission will be charged for nonmembers planning to swim. The pool will open at 1 p.m. as usual and festivities will begin at 2 p.m.
In the event of rain, the celebration will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.
Duck race
The Riverwalck Saloon in Parryville will be host to the first Duck Race for Cats from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Come join the “Cool Cats” for a day of fun while helping cats. There will be vendors, a tricky tray, 50/50, and cheer on your ducks to win prizes. The event is to benefit the Palmerton Cat Project.
Breakfast
An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Items include eggs to order, ham, bacon, sausage, hash, potatoes, etc.
Wing, taco, and clam specials are served every Wednesday night from 5 to 8 p.m. Dinner is served every Friday night from 4 to 8 p.m.
Community meal
A free community meal will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. All are invited to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.
Golf tournament
The Palmerton Area Library Golf Tournament is Aug. 24 at the Blue Shamrock Golf Club. Get your team together now for the four-person scramble format. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Coffee, doughnuts, juice and a barbecue lunch buffet available. Registration is at 7 a.m. with shotgun start at 8 a.m. Call the library for more information including fees. Used book sale
A used book sale will be held at Emmanuel UCC, 519 Hamilton St., Bowmanstown from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. This is the last and final book sale and will be a fill-a-bag sale.
Solar energy presentation
A Solarize Lehigh Valley presentation will be held at the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. The free program on solar energy will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Call the library at 610-826-3424 for information.
Jerusalem UCC
On Sunday, Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will hold worship services at 9 a.m.
Jerusalem’s God’s House Band will be participating in the Joyful Noise Church Music Competition at 4:30 p.m. at the West End Fair. Come cheer on the band.
