Pleasant Valley School District simplifies dress code

The Pleasant Valley School District has simplified its dress code to make it “more user friendly for students and parents,” Superintendent David Piperato said.

The revised code allows for more choices when it comes to color and style, while sticking to the solid color palette. Pants must still be khaki and the length of shorts and shirts are still of a modest length, but a few more choices are available.

The dress code hasn’t recently been referred to in a recent safety interview as one of the methods for determining who belongs in the building and who might not.

The revisions for this year can be found on the district’s website under the Standardized Student Dress Code tab. Select Quick Reference Guide for Student Dress for the newest revisions to the code.

The fall will also bring a change to the start times for school in the district. Piperato said the new times by building are as follows:

Pleasant Valley High School, 7:20 a.m. start and 2:20 p.m. dismissal.

Pleasant Valley Middle School, 7:25 a.m. start and 2:37 p.m. dismissal.

Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, 8:34 a.m. start and 3:32 p.m. dismissal.

Pleasant Valley Elementary School, 8:47 a.m. start and 3:32 p.m. dismissal.

“We moved the start times up for the 2018-19 school year in order to release PVE and PVI at a more reasonable time,” Piperato said. “As you know, many of our elementary aged students are typically on the bus beyond 5 p.m. We believe children should get home earlier, especially on bad-weather days.”

Pleasant Valley’s first day of school for the upcoming school year is Aug. 27.
