Northampton Community College will debut a new specialized diploma, “Publishing for Writers,” for the fall 2018 semester at the Bethlehem Campus.
Topics include preparing for publication, acquiring a literary agent and/or editor, the publishing industry at large, networking, and a brief discussion of independent and self-publishing. A completed manuscript or publishable work is helpful, but not required. Those that are in the process of writing their book are also welcome.
The program was developed by NCC professor of communication Melissa Koberlein, who has written and self-published “Fireflies,” a young adult trilogy that melds romance and light science fiction.
“Anyone can publish, but you have to do it the right way,” says Koberlein. “I’m hoping these classes will dispel the myths that surround the publishing industry, regardless of whether students choose a traditional or self-publishing route.”
