The details of a one-vehicle crash that happened at 6:15 a.m. Friday on Route 443, Blakeslee Boulevard Drive, in Mahoning Township, have been reported by state police at the Lehighton barracks.
Police said Preston A. Wolbert, 19, of East Stroudsburg, was driving a 2018 Hyundai Sonata westbound at a high rate of speed when he fell asleep as the car neared Mill Road (near the Normal Square intersection). Police said the car went off the right side of the road, striking a concrete barrier head-on, causing major, disabling damages.
Police said Wolbert and a passenger, Dakota R. Staples, 18, also of East Stroudsburg, sustained unknown injuries. Wolbert was transported to the St. Luke’s-Gnaden Huetten Hospital, Lehighton, while Staples was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, both by the Lehighton Ambulance Association crews.
Police said Wolbert was cited fror careless driving.
