Man sought in murder of elderly man found in pond

COCHRANTON (AP) — Authorities are seeking a suspect in the murder of an elderly man apparently stabbed to death during a robbery and then dumped into a pond.

The Meadville Tribune reports that the body of 88-year-old Theodore Garver of Beaver Township was recovered at about 11 a.m. Tuesday from a pond in northwestern Crawford County.

State police said they were seeking 36-year-old Kenneth Martell of Cochranton on charges including homicide and terroristic threats.

Police allege that he forced others to help cover up the slaying, telling them he went to Garver’s home to rob him but ended up killing him.

Coroner Scott Schell has scheduled an autopsy on the victim, who would have turned 89 Sunday.

Court documents don’t list a defense attorney; a listed number for Martell couldn’t be found Wednesday.
