Sub vets meet
The Pocono Base of the U.S. Submarine Veterans will meet at 7 tonight at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines. The group is a local chapter of the national organization U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc., which aims to perpetuate the memory of shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country.

Spotted lanternfly
Monroe County Conservation District and Penn State Extension Master Gardeners are partnering to hold a free public meeting with expert speakers Mark A. Boudreau, Ph.D. assistant teaching professor, Department of Biology, Penn State Brandywine; and Matt Gaimbra, Resource Conservation Specialist, MCCD.
The program will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon, July 28, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Member mourned
Church Women United of Monroe County mourns the passing of Joan Stringfield from Christian Missionary Alliance Church who was very active within the organization. She will be sorely missed by us and our community where she was very active. There will be a visitation today at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church on Third Street, Stroudsburg, across from the ShopRite, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Jesus the Christ Church, 2060 Tanite Road, Stroudsburg. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
Blood donation possibilities
There are two places West Enders can give blood today to the American Red Cross: Route 115 at the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge headquarters from 1 to 6 p.m. and the other north on Route 715 at the Northampton Community College, Pocono Hall, on Warner Road from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Both will accept blood and the NCC collection will also do Power Red.
And at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville, donate today to Miller-Keystone Blood Center, beginning at noon.
Free supper
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting another free community supper tonight, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Altar & Rosary
The Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, meets at 6:30 tonight in the Pavilion, weather permitting, or in the Café.
Eldred Supervisors
The next meeting of the Eldred Township board of supervisors is scheduled for 7 tonight at the municipal building in Kunkletown.
The township Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the municipal building as well.
Zion Seniors
The 50-plus group known as Zion Seniors is meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday. Members should bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
There is a small yearly membership fee.
Lions meet
The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at Cherry’s in Kresgeville Thursday.
The board meeting begins at 6 p.m. and food orders will be placed at 6:30 p.m.
The club has invited its Pleasant Valley High School scholarship winners and families to this meeting.
Board of Education
The Pleasant Valley Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.
WELL meets
The West End Little League is having its general meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. It is open to all.
Lunch choices
Monroe County Seniors, Chestnuthill group, can order the following for their lunch: Friday is Asian chicken salad; Wednesday, July 25, is pork Marsala.
Those wishing to eat must call the site manager by 11 a.m. the day before at 570-242-6770.
QOP breakfast
A community breakfast is available at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
