St. Joseph hosts 84th annual festival

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley will host the 84th annual parish festival starting at 5 p.m. Friday.

The festival features an assortment of homemade ethnic foods, nightly entertainment, children’s activities, a theme basket Chinese auction, appliance sale, baked goods and plant sales and more.

Local musician Jay Smarr will kick off the entertainment at 6:30 p.m. Friday with his Folk ’n’ Coal Mine Music.

Saturday’s celebrations begin with the fifth annual John “Toot” O’Gurek Horseshoe Tournament at 10 a.m. Registration for the tournament is 8:30 a.m. in the church hall.

A vigil Mass will take place at 4 p.m. and the festival will begin around 5.

Saturday’s entertainment will be provided by Honky Tonk Medics.

On Sunday, there will be an exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and procession of the statue of St. Gabriel through the west end of town from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. All are welcome to participate in the procession.

The festival will open following the procession at 5 p.m.

Sunday’s entertainment will be Toolshed Jack, beginning at 6 p.m.

The three-day event will conclude with a fireworks display after 10 p.m.
