On Monday, the Monroe County Courthouse and some of the surrounding offices were closed due to a bomb threat. This was the third such threat this year.
Now Monroe County detectives are asking the public for help to determine who is to blame for the threats.
On Tuesday, chief county detective Eric Kerchner released the 911 recordings of two of the three threats.
All three of the bomb threats were called into different 911 dispatch centers. The first call was made to the Lackawanna County 911 Center on May 7 at 9:53 a.m. The caller stated that a bomb was at a “Monroe County court.” No specific court was identified.
That call was traced to an area north of Scranton.
On June 11 at 10:56 a.m. a second threat was called into Lackawanna County 911 Center once again stating that there was a bomb at the Monroe County Courthouse. That call was traced to an area of Dickson City.
On Monday, a call was received at the Monroe County 911 Center stating that there were a total of four bombs at the Monroe County Courthouse and an additional five had been hidden in attorneys’ offices located near the courthouse.
The third call was placed from an area near Washington Street in East Stroudsburg.
Recordings of the second and third call are available on the district attorney’s website at monroecountyda.com/news/bomb-threats-at-courthouse.
The public is asked to contact detective Brian Webbe at 570-517-3114 with any information that might lead to the identity of the caller or callers. Webbe can also be reached at bwebbe@monroecountypa.gov.
