Thorpe man steals $10K in tools from father

A Jim Thorpe man will appear in court after allegedly stealing tools from his father valued at $10,500.

Peter Hydro, 49, of the 700 block of Lehigh Street, faces charges on two counts each of criminal trespass; burglary; theft by unlawful taking or disposition; and defiant trespass.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Matthew Schwarz of the Jim Thorpe Borough Police Department:

On July 3, Schwarz was dispatched to the 400 block of School Street for a report of a burglary.

Upon arrival, Schwarz met a man who said that his son, Peter Hydro, had entered his garage on June 29 and July 3 and removed tools valued at $10,500.

The father said that Hydro had been advised he was not allowed on the property after a domestic incident involving the two.

According to reports, Hydro removed a welder valued at $7,500, a tire machine valued at $1,000, and various hand tools valued at $2,000.

The father said he had recovered the tire machine and welder on Center Street, and the tools in a garage located on Pine Street.

One witness saw Hydro dropping the tools off at that garage, while another witness saw him moving the tire machine and welder to a business’ parking lot on Center Street.

In addition, Hydro is seen on surveillance going in and out of the property on both dates.

The father also suspects that Hydro stole two battery chargers valued at $800 and $400 sometime between June 29 and July 1.

Hydro remains free in lieu of $10,000 unsecured bail.

Hydro is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. July 25 before District Judge Eric Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
