Tamaqua man arrested on drug charges

A Tamaqua man spent a short time in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, after being arrested on drug charges on May 24.

Micah Young, 20, of 109 Washington St., was stopped by police at 9:30 p.m. that day after acting suspiciously while in the first block of North Railroad Street, Tamaqua.

As the officers were speaking to Young and another man, Young began acting nervous, sweating profusely although the temperature was in the low 60s, swaying back and forth. As he was being patted down for officer safety, he kept putting his hands in his pockets. Those pockets held a cigarette pack containing a straw and baggies and several orange, oval pills, which he said were Adderall. He admitted he does not have a prescription for the drug.

As the search was happening, Young’s cellphone received messages from two people seeking to purchase Adderall.

He was arraigned before duty District Magisterial Judge James Kilker on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $5,000 straight cash, which he was initially unable to post.

Bail was posted on May 25.
