Friends of Beltzville schedule activities in the state park

Several activities have been planned by the Friends of Beltzville State Park:

• Garden Days at Thursday: The Friends have created a new Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden. The group is looking for people who like to be outdoors, garden and learn. Celebrate and assist those all-important (and beautiful) pollinators as we shape up the place for spring.

Gardening has many benefits: Connecting with nature, digging in the dirt, even weeding is one of the best stress reducers; gardening burns calories.

Gardening strengthens your immune system. Gardening also releases creativity it allows us to unplug and creates a space for us to slow down the pace of your life. Bring your tools, gloves, water, and creativity.

• Kayak Shoreline Clean-Up Pine Run Boat Launch, at 6 p.m. Friday: Cleanups are made fun when they’re done from a boat. The lake’s shoreline needs your help so meet at the Pine Run Boat Launch for an evening’s “work.”

• Walking Group, 11 a.m. Thursdays: These free weekly walks will be one hour. Please wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes and bring water. An opportunity to enjoy nature in the company of other adults without the distraction of cellphones and children. Walking is greatly beneficial for the body and mind, can have a tremendous positive impact on overall health and well-being, and a walk in nature promotes total health, both physical and mental. Rain/snow will cancel walks. This program is led by volunteers. If a volunteer is not present, walk on your own.

The friends group meets the first Monday of each month at Beltzville State Park EIC parking lot.
