A Tamaqua man was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville after pouring lighter fluid on his wife and threatening to set her on fire on May 12.
Police were contacted by the woman, who said the incident happened in the 300 block of North Railroad Street. She also said her husband, John Roberts, 56, had been drinking all day.
When police arrived on scene, officers found him in a red pickup, trying to pull out of a parking space. He said he was leaving because of a fight with his wife. There was a wooden hammer on the passenger seat, a hammer he reportedly used to threaten a man outside of his home.
Roberts was arraigned before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Bail was set at $50,000, which he was unable to post.
