A Tamaqua man was so upset about being evicted, he caused a disturbance that required the presence of police.
Tamaqua Police went to 424 Hazle St. at 7:13 p.m. on May 11 after receiving a call that Robert Barron, 52, was trashing his apartment and threatening to kill several people, including a 6-year-old. He had been drinking.
When officers arrived, Barron was outside and threw a knife into a shrub next to the building. He spread his arms and asked the officer to shoot him. When the officer wouldn’t comply, Barron started walking toward him in a threatening manner. That earned him a Taser shot to the chest. Once he went to the ground, Barron obeyed all of the officer’s instructions.
A search of the apartment found three female victims, who had locked themselves in a bedroom for their safety; significant damage to the apartment building, including three broken doors and a window; and dozens of long knives scattered throughout the residence.
He was arraigned before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer on charges of making terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and public drunkenness.
Barron was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville after he was denied bail due to his behavior in the courtroom.
