A Lansford borough councilman is in jail after police seized drugs and weapons from his home.

Matthew Walsh, 33, of the 300 block of West Ridge Street, was arraigned Friday afternoon by District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.

Walsh, who has served on borough council since January 2016, faces charges on four counts each of possession of a controlled substance, and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; and two counts of corrupt organization.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Crystal Bodden and Kirk Schwartz of the state office of Attorney General:

On Friday, as part of an ongoing investigation into the drug distribution activity of the defendants, Walsh and Danielle Grochowski, search and seizure warrants were executed at Walsh Precious Metals, located at 28 W. Ridge St.

Walsh was taken into custody without incident. As a result of the search warrant, a number of items consistent with drug trafficking were located and seized from inside the home, including 59 oxycodone tablets, eight fentanyl patches, eight Adderall tablets, 165 grams of marijuana, assorted empty prescription pill bottles, numerous other unidentified tablets and pills, an electronic scale, one .357 Magnum handgun and $1,072.

Police also went to Walsh’s residence. There, they arrested Grochowski and seized empty pill bottles, 31 unidentified tablets and pills, 11 assorted rifles, pistols and shotguns and a small amount of marijuana.

After being taken into custody, both Walsh and Grochowski were advised of their Miranda rights, and provided statements regarding the items and their involvement in the acquisition and distribution of controlled substances.

Both said they have been “working together” with one another during the past six months to acquire oxycodone, Adderall, fentanyl, marijuana and other controlled substances from various people.

Walsh and Grochowski said they purchase the controlled substances for a fraction of the value, then resell the controlled substances on the street, making a few dollars on each sale.

Walsh is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 3:30 p.m. May 30 before Kosciolek.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 straight bail. Grochowski is also in prison and scheduled for a hearing on May 30.
