West Penn township police are investigating an early morning crash which seriously injured a Lansford man.
The crash occurred at 3 a.m. along St. Peter’s road just east of the intersection with Dairy Road.
Police report the man was driving west when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway. His Audi sedan crossed the roadway entering the left berm onto wet grass.
The car traveled the berm, slamming into three large boulders which had been placed there to block off an old drive way.
A passenger, a West Penn man was able to climb free of the wreckage.
A team effort by members of the West Penn and Mahoning townships fire companies freed the victim after being trapped for an hour.
The man was treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before he was transported to an area trauma center. West Penn township police Sgt. Jason Lorah is investigating the incident.
