Schuylkill man charged with assaulting woman

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Wednesday for assaulting a woman.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said George Rohrbach, 20, of New Philadelphia, is facing charges of aggravated and simple assault, strangulation, terroristic threats and harassment.

Police said at 2:30 p.m. Rohrbach was at the residence of a 41-year-old woman who resides in Frieden Manor, Wayne Township. He became involved in a verbal altercation with the woman and punched her in the abdomen, knocking her to the floor. The woman then stood up and told Rohrbach he needed to leave.

As the woman walked into the kitchen area, Rohrbach came from behind and began to choke her with his arm around her neck and threatened to kill her. The woman was unable to breathe and almost lost consciousness.

Police said at this point the victim dropped a firearm and Rohrbach picked it up. He walked outside the residence with the firearm and took the victim’s truck. The victim then texted Rohrbach telling him he needed to come back and take her to the hospital because something was wrong with her. Rohrbach returned to the home and took the victim to the Lehigh Valley Hospital South Campus-Pottsville, where she was treated. She was later transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, for further treatment where it was found that she had a lacerated spleen and internal bleeding.

Rohrbach was located in Pottsville and taken into custody. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, and committed to the county prison after failing to post $10,000 straight cash bail.
