Palmerton Area school board
Palmerton Area School District’s board of directors accepted the retirement of teachers Marsha Beers and Tamara Dobias, effective at the end of the 2017-18 school year, on Tuesday night.
Beers is a German and Spanish teacher at the high school, while Dobias is a kindergarten teacher at Parkside Education Center.
In other items Tuesday, the board approved:
• The resignation of Deb Sheckler as school board secretary, effective May 31.
• Ryan Kish as school board secretary, effective June 1, 2018, to June 30, 2021, at the rate of $1,500 per year.
• Participation in the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit technology pool for legal services.
• A therapy services contract with Pediatric Therapeutic Services for the 2018-19 school year.
• A change order with Myco Mechanical to add $21,430.69 to its current contract for renovations.
Superintendent Scot Engler said the change order stems from an error that occurred when engineers specified the size of a pipe for a fire protection system.
“We’re not incurring an extra cost over if it had been done correctly the first time,” Engler said.
• A production and licensing contract with Music Theatre International for the performance of Disney’s “The Lion King Jr.” by the drama club.
• A $500 deposit to the Stroudsmoor Country inn for the Palmerton High School 2019 prom on May 3, 2019.
• A renewal with Frontline Education Absence and Substitute Management at a cost of $5,737.18 for the 2018-19 school year.
• A Pennsylvania School Board Association policy merge agreement with a one-time fee of $1,675.
• An agreement for TranPerfect Remote Interpreters products and services with the CLIU for the 2018-19 school year.
• A renewal with SchoolDude Solutions for the 2018-19 at a cost of $2,232.57 for the 2018-19 school year.
• 2018-19 extracurricular positions including Tom Heinick, high school concert band adviser, $2,085 stipend; Tom Heinick, high school marching band adviser, $4,578 stipend; Laura Cressley, junior high band adviser, $1,508 stipend; Laura Cressley, junior high chorus adviser, $1,508 stipend; Natalie Madeira, high school chorus adviser, $2,085; Chrissy Rehatchek marching band/color guard adviser, $1,356; and Marica Heinick, high school assistant marching band adviser, $2,527 stipend.
