Trinity Lutheran dedicates tree in honor of Reformation

Trinity Lutheran Church of Lehighton recently dedicated an American linden tree as a companion to their “sister” silver linden tree that is located in the Saxony region, Germany. Wittenberg is the hometown of the Reformation started in 1517 by the Rev. Martin Luther 500 years ago.

The Lehighton tree was planted Dec. 1, 2017. The dedication was held on Earth Day when the weather provided better opportunity for congregational participation. The blessing was offered by the Rev. Nancy Moore. In addition, a time capsule was prepared for burial with memorabilia designated to be opened for the 1,000th anniversary of the Reformation in 2517.

Larger rocks were painted by artist Kathy Long. Members of the congregation were invited to personalize and label river rocks that were placed between the larger ones on the mulch around the tree.
