Local Sports Roundup: Results from May 7
Pleasant Valley earned wins in baseball and softball on Monday, while Marian’s softball team clinched a District 11 playoff berth by defeating Weatherly.
Northern Lehigh, Palmerton and Tamaqua also posted softball wins, and Panther Valley’s baseball team picked up a victory.
BASEBALL
Pleasant Valley-PM West
A nine-run first inning sparked Pleasant Valley to a 15-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.
Evan Bond led the Bears (11-7) on offense with two singles, a double and two RBIs, while Nick Gattuso finished with two singles, three runs scored and an RBI.
PV’s Trevor Knappenberger (two singles, run scored, two RBIs), Dallas Greenzweig (two singles, run scored, three RBIs) and Matt Burnett (three walks, three runs scored) also contributed to the victory.

A five-run third inning helped Saucon Valley secure a 7-4 Colonial League win over Palmerton.
Ben Serfass led the Blue Bombers (10-7) with two singles and an RBI, while Jake Taschler and Devyn Rehrig both finished with a single and a run scored.

Salisbury got the best of Northern Lehigh for a 7-1 Colonial League victory.
Brandon Hess had a hit and scored the only run for the Bulldogs (4-14). Aaron Rudolph had the other hit for Nolehi, while Gio Colon (walk) was the only other Bulldog to reach base.

Noah Nabholz pitched a three-inning no-hitter as Pottsville rolled to a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over visiting Jim Thorpe.
Nabholz struck out six Olympians and received plenty of offensive support.
Mike Botto hit a grand slam for the Tide, while Eli Wood also homered. Trevor Sherakas contributed a single, double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Blue Mountain-Lehighton
Schuylkill League Division 1 champion Blue Mountain cruised to an 8-1 victory over Lehighton.
Kaleb Sophy had two hits, one a double, and Jack McKivigan homered for the winners
Chris Whiteman paced the Indians (7-10; 2-9) with a single and a double, while Noah Sensinger had a hit and scored Lehighton’s only run.

Susquehanna captured an 8-7 non-league victory over Tamaqua on a walk-off home run by Jace Mertina in the 12th inning.
The Blue Raiders’ Brayden Knoblauch finished with two singles, a double and two runs scored, while Ryan Frederickson added a single, double and two runs scored. Tamaqua’s Casey Rother (two singles, two RBIs, two walks) and Nate Boyle (two singles, RBI) also contributed to the Tamaqua offense.
The Blue Raiders (8-7) held a 7-1 lead, but Susquehanna rallied for six runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

Marian jumped out early and never looked back en route to an 8-5 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.
The win clinched a District 11 playoff berth for the Fillies (10-7; 7-5).
Marian’s Lacey Blasko was 3-for-4 at the plate, which included two singles, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Toni Galasso (single, double) and Lyndsey Reinoehl (single, triple, two runs scored, RBI) also contributed to the win.

Jada Schellhammer was solid in the circle and at the plate, leading Tamaqua to a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.
Schellhammer finished with a two-hit shutout, not walking any batters while striking out 11. Offensively, she collected a single, double, triple, scored three runs and knocked in two.
The Blue Raiders (13-4; 10-3) also received two singles, a double, four runs scored and an RBI from Jen Frederickson, while Courtney Hoffman added a single, double, three runs scored and a stolen base. Other contributors included Miranda Chinchar (two runs), Jane Kupchinsky (two RBIs), Alexis Trevorah (homer, two RBIs), and Bryn Miller (two hits).

Northern Lehigh used a three-run eighth inning to earn an 8-6 Colonial League win over Salisbury.
The victory gives the Bulldogs (15-4; 13-4) a half-game lead on Salisbury (14-4; 12-4) in the West Division standings.
Shyanna Williams, Alicia Horn and Julia Wanamaker all finished with two hits for the Bulldogs. Kaitlin Hoffman, who gained the pitching win, added a home run.

Shupp tossed the first three frames, before Serfass closed things out for the Blue Bombers (12-6).
Avery Neipert had three hits and an RBI for the winners, while Baylee Guedes added two hits and knocked in three runs. Shupp helped her own cause with a double and three RBIs.
