Scouts refurbish Jim Thorpe signs

“Triple Nickel” troop project — Scout Troop 555 of Jim Thorpe reinstalled two large completely refurbished signs marking the Jim Thorpe Memorial on Route 903 on the east side of the borough.

A Jim Thorpe borough council member was talking about fixing up the two large signs at the Jim Thorpe Memorial because they were cracked and in need of repair, and they asked scoutmaster Dan Ward about restoring them. While the project would have a tight schedule, as they hoped to have the restoration completed and reinstalled in time for the Jim Thorpe birthday celebration scheduled for May 19 and 20, the Scouts of troop 555 accepted the challenge and took it on as a troop project.

They removed the original signs; sanded, primed and painted them; and then replaced them along with some new brackets and mounting hardware.

Scoutmaster Ward said, “Eagle Scout Noah Rodgers led the complete project. I couldn’t be more proud of his leadership skills within this project, especially on a short deadline.”

Present on site for the reinstallation were Dan Ward, scoutmaster; Tim Loftus, second class; Anthony Ward, Life scout; Danny DeMarco, first class; Antonio Jusino, second class; Noah Rodgers, Eagle Scout; and Vince Rodgers, all of who helped Troop Triple Nickel finish the community project with time to spare.
