Local Scholastic Roundup: Results from April 30

In a game that featured a wild seventh inning Monday, Panther Valley rallied for a Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley, Lehighton, and Tamaqua all recorded wins in both baseball and softball.

BASEBALL

Marian-Panther Valley

After Marian scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning, Panther Valley responded with seven in the bottom half to pull out a wild 11-10 Schuylkill League walk-off win.

Trailing 10-4, Tristan Blasko slugged a two-run homer. Aaron Miller and Jake Taras followed with RBI singles to cut the gap to 10-8, and a sacrifice fly by Mark Kokinda trimmed the deficit to a run. Mason Goida delivered a two-out single to tie the score, while an error on the play allowed the winning run to score.

Blasko finished with two hits and three RBIs for the Panthers (6-6; 3-6). Jon Hafer added two hits, one a homer, and scored three runs, while Goida ended with two hits and two runs. PV also received two hits from Brad Buzzard and Miller, while Zach Kindt contributed a solo homer.

For Marian, Alex Kubishin belted a solo homer in the seventh that gave the Colts (8-6; 5-4) the lead and sparked the six-run uprising. Ryan Cappel had two hits and two RBIs, while Aaron Mason added a pair of hits. Dante Agosti knocked in two runs, while Seth Derr and Matt Doherty each scored a pair of runs.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua broke open a tie game with a big third inning en route to a 4-1 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Jim Thorpe.

Isaiah Kupchinsky had a hit and two RBIs for the Blue Raiders (6-6; 4-4), who scored three runs in the third to take the lead. Brayden Knoblauch (1-for-3) and Matt Minchhoff (1-for-2, run scored) also drove in runs, while Casey Rother collected two hits.

Thad Zuber struck out 13 while allowing just four hits and one walk in seven innings to earn the victory.

Saucon Valley-Lehighton

Randy Bongiorno had two hits and scored a run as Lehighton edged Saucon Valley, 5-4, in a non-league game.

The Indians (6-8) plated four runs in the fourth inning to key the victory. Jason Pryce delivered a two-run single during the frame.

Chris Whiteman earned the win, tossing all seven innings and allowing just five hits.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to down East Stroudsburg North 9-2 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Evan Bond sparked the Bears offense with a double, triple, a walk and two RBIs. He also reached base after being hit by a pitch and scored a run. Danny McEvoy knocked in two runs, while Brent Beck crossed the plate twice.

The Bears’ Brandon Ratti pitched four scoreless innings for the victory.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Madison Rosenberg collected two hits and knocked in three runs to lead Pleasant Valley to a 12-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

Rosenberg delivered a two-run single during a four-run fourth inning that extended a slim 3-2 lead. The Bears (5-8) tacked on four more runs in the fifth to blow the game open.

Janelle Frable tossed a two-hitter and struck out five. At the plate, she finished with two hits and two RBIs. Morgan Frantz also added a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Tyler Woltal contributed a hit, two runs and two RBIs.

Palmerton-Northwestern

Lexi Merkel struck out 12 hitters and went the distance as Palmerton defeated Northwestern, 3-1, in a Colonial League contest.

Paige Shupp did the damage at the plate, belting a two-run home run in the in the third inning. Kailah Altemose added an RBI for the Bombers (9-4; 8-4).

Northwestern’s Emily Akelaitis also turned in a strong performance, scattering six hits and striking out seven. Ashley Sisco contributed two hits and Cassidy Lentz delivered the lone RBI for the Tigers (7-8; 7-6).

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua rolled to an 18-0 win over Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League action.

The Blue Raiders (11-2; 8-1) exploded for eight runs in the first and added nine more in the third. Jen Frederickson led the hit parade by going 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Courtney Hoffman produced a double, two singles, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. Other stat-sheet fillers were Jada Schellhammer (two singles, a walk, two RBIs, two runs scored), Alexis Trevorah (triple, double, three RBIs), and Taylor Donnon (single, double, walk, two RBIs and two runs scored).

Schellhammer earned the victory for the Raiders.

Nadia Soloman had a single for the Olympians (0-15; 0-9).

Panther Valley-Marian

Marian rode a strong pitching performance by Lyndsey Reinoehl and two big innings at the plate to a 10-3 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Reinoehl scattered seven hits and struck out four without a walk for the complete game victory.

The Fillies scored four runs in the second inning and equaled that output in the sixth.

Lacey Blasko and Mia Nemeth both had multiple hit games for Marian (8-5; 5-4).

Robin Krajcir paced the Panthers (6-5; 2-4) with two hits, while Lydia Malaska and Kaleyia Polanco each whacked a double.

Lehighton-Lourdes

Becky Serfass and Samantha Gruber turned in stellar performances as Lehighton defeated Lourdes 16-0 in Schuylkill League action.

Serfass was perfect at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs. Gruber nearly matched her effort on the mound, surrendering only one hit while registering nine strikeouts.

Heidi Greene blasted a two-run homer in the third for the Indians, while Ryanne Hoffman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Alexis Scott, Makayla Nothstein and Karissa Hough all contributed two hits apiece for Lehighton (5-9; 4-6).

Josh Benak scored six goals to lead Freedom to an 18-4 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.
