A Monroe County woman was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in collided head-on with another vehicle late Friday afternoon.

State police at Stroudsburg identified the victim as Ruth A. Leon, 64, of Stroudsburg.

According to troopers about 5:44 p.m. Pedro Pablo Leon, 70, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Route 209 in Hamilton Township when he attempted to correct a curve in the roadway.

His vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Cadillac Escalade driven by Anthony Benton, 52, of Effort.

Mrs. Leon was taken by medical helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, where she as pronounced dead at 7:32 p.m.

Pablo Leon and Benton were both taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono, East Stroudburg.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers added.
