Carbon County court — drug cases
Ten defendants in drug-related cases entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court before Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Two cases
Anthony William Hill
, 29, of Coaldale, entered pleas in two pending cases. He pleaded in one case to possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property for an incident on Feb. 28, 2017, filed by Kidder Township police for an incident in Lake Harmony. In the second case he pleaded to possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident on July 20, 2017, in the parking lot of Redner’s Market filed by Nesquehoning police.
Hill is an inmate in the county prison and has a detainer filed by Schuylkill County for a pending criminal case.
On the first drug and receiving counts, Matika placed him on probation for a year on each count, concurrent to each other; and on the second drug count, another year probation, consecutive to the first two counts.
He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render a total of 100 hours of community service, and have no contact with the victim in the receiving case.
Other cases
Shuaib Abdul Ali
, 33, of Williamsport, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. He was arrested on Nov. 4, 2015, along Interstate 80 at the Carbon/Luzerne line by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop. A charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain.
Sentencing was deferred as Matika ordered a presentence investigation report be prepared by the adult probation office.
Alexander Thomas Hurd
, 28, of Bozeman, Montana, pleaded to three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Nov. 19, 2017, along I-80 in East Side Borough by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop.
He was placed on probation for a year on each count, with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Allison Jade Sanders
, 38, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested along Dock Street by Lansford police on July 4, 2015.
She was placed on probation for six months. She is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Muncy, Lycoming County, serving a sentence imposed in Schuylkill County,
Arthur David Caicedo
, 21, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 7, 2016, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Route 93 at the entrance to the county prison.
Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he render 25 hours of community service.
Allex Donna Reimer,
24, of Slatington, pleaded in three pending cases to two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of criminal conspiracy — retail theft.
She was arrested on the first drug charge on Aug. 11, 2017, by Summit Hill police and on the second on Nov. 30, 2017, by Lansford police. The theft count stems from a Jan. 30, 2017, incident at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.
Matika placed her on probation for a total of 18 months and ordered her to make restitution to Walmart for $632.23 (her share), get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.
Francis Howie Kephart
, 27, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Sept. 11, 2017, by state police at Hazleton following a traffic stop.
He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 25 hours of community service.
Jason William Miller,
39, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested by Lansford police on July 9, 2017, along East Abbott Street.
Sentencing was deferred.
Richard D. Beers III,
47, of Lansford, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Nov. 13, 2017, by Nesquehoning police.
He was placed on probation for a year on each count, concurrent to each other, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render 50 hours of community service and must testify truthfully against his co-defendant in the case.
Johnathon Marrero,
30, of New York City, New York, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested following a traffic stop on Dec. 13, 2017, along I-80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
