Several concerns were raised by borough residents at the Parryville council meeting on Monday. It was asked if any resolution or ordinance existed regarding the amount a given fee could be to a customer. An answer will be provided at a future date.
The curb paint on the corner of Centre and Oak Street has faded, causing motorists to park inappropriately. This has created a blind spot and greater hazard that almost caused a collision according to the concerned residents. The corners of Water Street have also faded, creating unsafe parking arrangements and blind spots.
“We will make sure that is a spring project,” council President Cathy Hawk said.
A complaint was submitted by a resident concerning the repeated domestic disturbances their neighbor has caused, especially late at night. Incidents involving shouting and loud music were mentioned.
“Currently there is no noise ordinance,” Hawk said.
State police have been called numerous times, but no resolution has been reached.
Vice President Sharon Hinkle said, “We are working on an ordinance.”
A $390 quote to repair damaged roofing was acquired by Washburn and approved.
“We appreciate your effort in keeping the streets cleared,” Hawk said to Mayor Kevin Greenzweig.
The mayor will review the current parking ordinances once received from Washburn.
The final zoning ordinance review meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 2.
Washburn expressed some concern with the manner in which Parryville Fire Company “zips” down Centre Street with their lights and sirens on full power when called late at night. The latest incident was the building fire at Trainer’s restaurant past midnight.
Washburn’s main question relating to the necessity of this practice by the fire company will need to be brought to acting Fire Chief Mike Kunkle’s attention.
Regarding roads, 67 tons of salt are to be received and coal patch is being applied to potholes. A 1-ton roller is soon to be procured to aid in efficient road repair.
“We will be working on the alleys,” Councilman Washburn confirmed. Required street signs will be ordered as well.
Council discussed Act 172, which would provide a tax break to volunteer fire company members.
“We are going to table that for now,” Hawk said.
Palmerton borough is requesting the aid of Parryville Fire Police with the Raising the House 5K and the St. Luke’s Five and Dime race. A motion to approve the voluntary service of Parryville Fire Police passed.
Kunkle will be consulted before any final decision is made.
