A Palmerton man died after his vehicle hit a tree Thursday morning in Washington Township.

The incident occurred at about 8:16 a.m. in the 2900 block of Mountain Road when Robert Heffelfinger, 79, was driving his vehicle and struck a tree.

Heffelfinger was pronounced dead at 9:11 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Craig Hanzl.

The cause of death is attributed to head injuries sustained in the crash.

The manner of death is accident.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police are conducting the investigation.
