The Carbon County Planning Commission has recommended approval for the PennEast compressor station proposed for Kidder Township.

The Kidder Township Supervisors officially approved the plan in September, but the plans were never forwarded to the county planners.

While the county planners only give recommendations regarding land development projects, state law still requires developers to have the county review their projects before they can get final approval.

Planner Ivan O. Meixell Jr. said the Kidder supervisors may want to vote once more to confirm their approval from September so they’re in compliance with state law.

“In our opinion to prevent future problems with plan recording, etc., the conditional final plan approval of the final plan should be rescinded by the Kidder Township Supervisors to conform with the requirements of Act 247,” Meixell said.

The planners also pointed out that there are still changes that must be made to the plans before the project can go forward. The project needs a highway occupancy permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, as well as several DEP permits regarding stormwater, sewage and a stream located on the property.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved the PennEast pipeline, however the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Delaware River Basin Commission must still give their approval before the project can proceed.

In other business

• The commission recommended approval for a minor subdivision at 4070/4100 Fireline Road, Lower Towamensing Township.

• The commission wrote a letter to DEP informing it that a grant application for a water line project in Bowmanstown is in compliance with the county comprehensive plan.
