The Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown sent a letter to parents of St. Jerome Regional School today to tell parents that the school is planning to move to the Rush Elementary School building.
The diocese has offered to buy the former Rush Elementary school building from Tamaqua Area School District at a cost of $1.2 million.
If the sale is approved tonight, plans are to move the school over the summer to be ready for the first day of school on Aug. 27.
“We believe this move, if successfully completed, would be a very positive development for the St. Jerome Regional Family,” said Philip J. Fromuth, superintendent of Catholic Education for the diocese.
He said the Rush school is newer and more spacious and has more classrooms, ample parking and bus access.
