To the editor:

I am a Republican and a supporter of the U.S. Constitution. I am also the wife of a public school teacher. Although I have some misgivings about arming teachers, I strongly agree there is a need for trained and armed security officers in the schools.

The recent tweets by President Donald Trump sound encouraging. We’ll see what action Congress takes, if any.

An acquaintance of mine, a tea party member, remarked that he would vote against any candidate who supported a ban on the sale of bazookas. Referring to the KKK, he commented that “some of them are probably nice guys.”

The Second Amendment controversy is not liberal vs. conservative or Republican vs. Democrat. It’s common sense vs. Neanderthals. The question that was directed to Sen. Joseph McCarthy over 60 years ago could be asked again, “Have you no decency?”
