Police charge man in Jim Thorpe assault

Jim Thorpe Police picked up a Lehighton man wanted for simple assault and harassment charges on Wednesday morning.

Cory Hunsicker, 41, of North First Street was arraigned on one misdemeanor count of simple assault - attempt and one summary offense of harassment by physical contact by Magisterial District Judge Eric M. Schrantz. Bail was set at 10 percent, $20,000, and was posted on Wednesday morning.

Patrolman Kyle Oliver reported that he was dispatched to 627 North Street in Jim Thorpe for an unwanted person in a residence on Monday morning. Oliver and Detective Lee Marzen cleared the house, finding a woman hiding in a small closet in the upstairs attic. The woman said she was hiding from her boyfriend, Hunsicker, who she said assaulted her in the downstairs living room. The woman, who said she was pregnant, said she was punched in the head, stomach, hand and left knee, and that she was experiencing knee and hand pain. She had bruising and swelling on her knee.

Hunsicker fled the seen before he could be interviewed. Lehighton EMS arrived and took the woman to Hazleton Hospital.

Hunsicker’s preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. on March 7.
