Lehighton police continue to search for a man who gave them false identification and then ran from officers Tuesday afternoon in the borough.
Borough police Chief Brian Biechy said the incident occurred at 1:45 p.m. when an officer was dispatched to the area of the 100 block of N. First Street for a suspicious man.
Biechy said the officer came in contact with the man, Rickey Tartaglia, and through their interaction, discovered the man gave him false identification.
“The officer went to take the male into custody and in the process, the male turned and ran, the officer gave pursuit, and was injured in the process of the pursuit,” Biechy said.
Biechy said the incident lasted about 40 minutes.
He thanked everyone who assisted, including Mahoning Township police, Jim Thorpe police, and state police.
Police are still trying to find Tartaglia. Biechy said police believe Tartaglia is a local resident in his late 20s who isn’t a danger to the community.
