State police report on crashes
State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes.
• A motorcyclist sustained a head injury when he crashed his 2016 Harley-Davidson Street Glide at 1:42 p.m. Jan. 25 on Spruce Hollow Road in Lower Towamensing Township. Police said Glen F. Fitzner of Kunkletown was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police said he received “suspected minor injury” that required an EMS transport. Fitzner was northbound on Spruce Hollow Road and was negotiating a left curve when he lost control of the cycle. Police said it slid on its clutch side for about 50 feet, leaving the lane of travel and coming to rest near a guide rail in the southbound lane. Police said the operator appeared to remain on the cycle throughout the entire slide. Fitzner was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
• Lorraine D. Borger, 86, of Kunkletown, escaped injury when she fell asleep while driving at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 25 at the intersection of Little Gap Road and Highland Lane in Lower Towamensing Township. Borger was driving a 2003 Saturn Ion 2 eastbound on Little Gap Road when she fell asleep and the car entered the westbound lane of travel. It then turned facing south and struck a guide rail on the south side of the road before coming to rest. Police said she was wearing her seat belt and multiple air bags deployed in the crash.
• A 2008 Hyundai Elantra driven by Cathy A. Cordery, 24, of Kunkletown, sustained disabling damages after a crash at 1:13 p.m. Feb. 1 on Interchange Road in Polk Township. She and an infant who was in the vehicle at the time were uninjured. Police said she was northbound on Interchange Road, between Harrity Road and Greenhill/Burger Hollow Road, when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the roadway and travel into a parking lot and property at 856 Interchange Road.
• A driver and four passengers escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 4:37 p.m. Sunday on Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township.
Xuhua Zhang, 34, of Philadelphia, was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer northbound near the intersection with Hahn’s Dairy Road when she lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the roadway and crash into a guide rail located in front of 3695 Forest Inn Road. Police said the vehicle was leaking gasoline and sustained disabling damages to its undercarriage.
