Tamaqua man, dog die in 443 crash

Police have identified the man killed involved in a fatal crash that occurred Thursday morning on Route 443.

Warren Hile Jr., 59, of Tamaqua, was killed after his Chevy Malibu crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle head on. The crash occurred at 8:49 a.m.

Mahoning Township Police said in a news release that at the time of the accident, Hile was traveling westbound on 443 near Clinic Road, just west of Normal Square. 

Police identified the occupants of the other vehicle, a Chevy Blazer, as Tina and Roland Martin of New Ringgold. Tina Martin, 57, was airlifted to St. Luke's Bethlehem, and Roland Martin, 65, was taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital--Cedar Crest. Both suffered serious injuries. 

Hile was traveling with a dog who was also killed in the crash. 

Route 443 was closed between Normal Square and Springhouse Road. Mahoning township police are investigating the incident.
