PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Pennsylvania-New Jersey rapid-transit system whose train hit part of a downed utility pole says it has resumed some service.

The Port Authority Transit Corp. train hit the pole Monday morning in Camden, New Jersey, halting service and leaving thousands of commuters scrambling to get to work.

The PATCO train was carrying 24 passengers when it hit the pole, resulting in at least four minor injuries. Service was shut down for more than three hours.

Transit officials say the utility pole was hit first by a freight train on an upper track, leaving a section hanging over a wall and in the PATCO train's path.

PATCO says the Tuesday morning rush hour will operate on a modified schedule, but the evening rush schedule will depend on the status of repairs.

The 14-mile line serves 38,000 riders daily.
