A look back: January 10, 1969

The board of trustees of the Coaldale State General Hospital yesterday unanimously approved the appointment of Mary M. George of Summit Hill as director of nurses, filling a vacancy caused by the resignation of Margaret Ferry.

Miss George is a 1943 graduate of the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, and served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps from 1944-46. She has been employed continuously at Coaldale since April 1948, having served as a general duty nurse, dispensary and emergency room supervisor and as the assistant director of nursing since Jan. 1, 1967.

She has taken special courses in the field of surgical nursing and psychology under the direction of the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University.
