Roof repairs
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for roof repairs for 2018.
West End families can apply to be one of 10 homes needing repair if they meet certain income criteria and meet other qualifications also.

Methodist men
A men’s group meets every third Saturday of the month from 9 to 10 a.m. at Effort UMC. All men of the church are invited for this time of fellowship.
It includes some light Bible study as well as breakfast goodies.
LAMA meets
The Pocono chapter of LAMA, Latin American Motorcycle Association, is slated to meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion in Gilbert.
Neighbors is focus
Salem-St. Paul’s Sunday school in Kresgeville is using the theme of Who is my Neighbor for this year’s classes.
As such, each month the focus is a different group of neighbors and the Sunday school collection money will go to the focus group.
The congregation will be asked to help by collecting items that can help those neighbors whether near or far.
For January church members are asked to help with adult socks and underwear, which will be given to The Welcoming Place.
The Sunday school will now also meet twice a month during the worship service, and once each month there will be a fun after-church activity.
Coming on Jan. 28 is a New Year’s party.
Polk Supervisors
The Polk Township Board of Supervisors meeting is on the calendar for 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday to continue the group’s work and outreach.
Blood drive soon
The Eldred Township Community Center will be the site of an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 26.
Walk-ins are welcome.
Busy park
The Chestnuthill Park will have back to back activities, weather permitting, Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.
On Friday, the West End Park and Open Space Commission will a host bingo night at 6:30 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Township Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.
Doors open at 5:30.
There will be specials, pull tabs, door prizes and refreshments
On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, the West End Park and Open Space Commission is offering Introduction to Snowshoeing at the Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715 in Brodheadsville. Learn the basics of snowshoes and enjoy a winter stump around the park. No experience necessary. Limited equipment is available. Registration is required.

Chili cook-off
Salem UCC, Gilbert, has planned a chili cook-off for Jan. 27 from noon to 3 p.m. The judges will be from Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company. There will also be a bake sale. Donations of baked goods are appreciated. Scouts will be selling hot dogs.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Standard activities include Scouts meeting every Tuesday evening, NA meeting every Wednesday evening and choir rehearsal at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Tax assistance
The AARP Tax Assistance Group from Lehighton will be responsible for the site in the West End of Monroe County. This site will begin Feb. 4 in Gilbert at the Salem United Church of Christ off Route 209 from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Thursdays.
It is free tax help for all ages with special attention to seniors for federal, state and local taxes as well as help with rent and property rebates.
This service is being performed through the generosity of volunteers from AARP, VITA/TCE and agents of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
If Pleasant Valley Schools have a two-hour delay, the hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to noon.
