Schuylkill County commissioners and salary board approved a number of actions Wednesday.
Commissioners approved the retirements of Ann Grochowski, West Mahanoy Township, a secretary in the sheriff’s office, and of Diane Hampford, Pottsville, a secretary in the Juvenile Probation Department.
They also approved the transfer of Jacklyn Smolock, Girardville, from a caseworker in the Children & Youth Services Agency to an investigator for the Public Defender’s office.
The salary board approved several actions, and set salaries for some positions.
In the district attorney’s office, the board approved four appointments: Karen Noon, Ashland, as an assistant district attorney on a per diem basis under a grant at $29.15 an hour; Laura Noon, Pottsville, as a victim/witness coordinator under a grant at $21.19 an hour; Ellen Leffler, North Manheim Township, as executive secretary at $24.56 an hour; and Kathleen Riedlinger, Orwigsburg, as discovery supervisor at $39,727 a year.
Controller Christy D. Joy cast the sole opposing vote on Leffler, saying her salary was too high.
The board also rescinded the termination of Cynthia Shpakovsky, West Mahanoy Township, as detective II. She’ll earn $23.54 an hour.
The board also appointed William Allar, Branch Township, as a deputy sheriff at $18.32 an hour.
